Sing!
Sing! was started by Des Williamson and Emma Potter.
Emma started off teaching at the local school and directed the children's singing. Des, the vicar of St Mark's, was so impressed with the school's Christmas performance he asked if Emma had ever thought of starting a Community Choir. "I dream of running a Community Choir but I wouldn't know where to start" said Emma. One of her idols is Gareth Malone. After some research planning and thinking the choir was launched on September 4th 2012. Originally the choir was to be called 'Hairbrush' with the strap line 'sing the songs you sing in to your hairbrush'. Des went with his family to the Jubilee concert on the Mall and part of the event was the half a million audience helping with the refrain of Gary Barlow's 'Sing!' Next time they met Des had a gloat about seeing Gareth Malone in the flesh much to Emma's annoyance. Suddenly the name of the choir became obvious - Sing! after all that's what we are going to do! Sing was launched on 4th September 2012. |
What to expect at Sing!
We meet on Tuesday evenings during school terms. Arrive from 7.30pm for a 7.45 start (time for admin)
We start with some fun warm up exercises like the 12345 song to the tune of 'knees up mother Brown' and do some breathing exercises. Then we may listen to a new song with the lyrics; we provide word sheets but not music due to copyright. When we're ready we launch in to the music only version and then Emma will take us through any bits we've not quite got! Normally we cover three or four songs and go home at 8.45 having had a good laugh and a good sing.

What if I'm not a great singer?
Emma believes that everyone can sing! No one has proved her wrong yet!! We have people who last sang in their Primary school choir 40 years ago, we have people who have never sung in public and we have people who have had voice coaching so whatever your level of experience (or inexperience) you won't be alone.
How much does it cost?
Your first visit will be £2.50. If you still haven't decided after your first night you can attend each session at £5. If you think you'd like to stick around you can pay £20 for 5 sessions.
